Burn-In Scripts and Resources are "code" that you run on Samsung drives using PC3K, SRT, Vtools, etc to do a "Burn-In" on the drive, in other words, a self-scan type of re-certification.

BURN can also enable SA access where access without it is not possible. It is not specifically for re-certification.

Burn-In script from HD103SJ, firmware 1AJ10001

Postby fzabkar » Thu Nov 28, 2013 8:45 pm

I extracted the attached script from the BI_SCRPT SA module (BINEWSCR.rpm) in a Samsung SpinPoint F3 HD103SJ with 1AJ10001 firmware.

This is the header of the BI_SCRPT SA module:

Code: Select all

Offset(h) 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A 0B 0C 0D 0E 0F

00000000  42 49 5F 53 43 52 50 54 99 00 00 00 00 00 00 00  BI_SCRPT™.......

The script is located at 0x12068 - 0x35592.

The comments refer to it as ...

    FireFox BI Script
    Trinity BI Script

Maybe we can find more scripts using the same method.

I don't think it would work that way, but you might try at your own risk.

I examined some SA dumps from older Samsung models. They appear to be different in terms of Burn-In.

For example, here are the entries for the MOVLY001 and BOVLY001 modules in the FIT of an HM080GC.

Code: Select all

Offset(h) 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A 0B 0C 0D 0E 0F

00000240  00 17 4D 4F 56 4C 59 30 30 31 01 90 00 E6 01 11  ..MOVLY001...æ..
00000250  00 17 42 4F 56 4C 59 30 30 31 01 90 00 E6 01 11  ..BOVLY001...æ..

They two modules have identical IDs, CHS values, size, and content. In fact they occupy the same physical location in the SA. They are one and the same, apart from the name.

The BI_SCRPT module is rather small and has very little content. It has no text scripts. Here is its header:

Code: Select all

Offset(h) 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A 0B 0C 0D 0E 0F

00000000  45 4E 44 20 20 20 20 00 4D 50 34 30 4C 50 30 31  END    .MP40LP01
00000010  00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00  ................

OTOH, here are the entries for the MOVLY001 and BOVLY001 modules in the FIT of a HD103SJ SpinPoint F3:

Code: Select all

Offset(h) 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A 0B 0C 0D 0E 0F

000001B0  73 00 4D 4F 56 4C 59 30 30 31 0A 00 8C 01 01 51  s.MOVLY001..Œ..Q
000001C0  19 00 42 4F 56 4C 59 30 30 31 96 01 8C 01 01 51  ..BOVLY001–.Œ..Q

In this case the two modules are completely distinct. MOVLY001 appears to hold the code that is required for normal operation whereas BOVLY001 contains Burn-In code.

There are references to BI throughout the entire BOVLY001 module, suggesting that its sole function is burn-in.

For example ...

Code: Select all

Offset(h) 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A 0B 0C 0D 0E 0F

00000CE0  10 27 00 00 70 86 01 00 24 32 08 14 42 49 20 2D  .'..p†..$2..BI -

The BI_SCRPT module appears similar to those of earlier models, but it includes a text script at the end.

Both the MOVLY001 and BOVLY001 modules for the SpinPoint F3 load at the same memory address, so this would suggest that there must be some way for the operator to select which module to boot from.

Therefore, I'm wondering whether all the necessary burn-in resources for the SpinPoint F3 models are backed up in the SA, not just the BI Script.

Hi All, Hi fzabkar
If possible, please share burn-in script (SRT) and module for a Samsung SpinPoint (S2) model HD250HJ/JP1.
I will try with my own hard drive is faulty (5B Maintenance read error)

Thank a lot.

Sorry, I don't have any burn-in resources.

However, I notice that in the Palo models (P60 / P80) there is a module in the SA called P60CODE. It appears to contain the same sort of Burn-In overlay code as in the factory burn resources for the same models. Perhaps that could be another source of burn-in code.

The P60CODE module appears to contain a flash loader (FLDR), a directory (TT or SS), the burn-in ROM code, plus the BOVLY001 and GEO_00 modules.
