Maxtor PCB problem - no power

Postby hipo » Wed Aug 06, 2014 3:24 pm

Hi to all,
I have this Maxtor MaXLineII 320GB IDE disk.
When plugged on power nothing happen, status registry don't show nothing, no BSY, motor don't spin.
Try with similar PCB motor, motor star sniping and drive is BSY.
Here is photo of PCB. I don't have compatible PCB and this one don't have an external flash.

Have you checked the supply voltages, eg +3.3V and -5V? Have you also checked whether the -POR signal has been deasserted?

I can't see the part markings, but U303 looks like it may be a parallel flash memory.

Supply voltages are OK.
Here is pic from U303
Around motor controller temperature is increasing.

Here is a similar PCB:
viewtopic.php?f=112&t=117

Measure the Vcore voltage (+1.7V) at Q400 (8-pin MOSFET) to the right of U303.

Also measure the POR test point to the left of Q400.

Q400 in the second photo looks a little discoloured, but that could just be the lighting.
